Xiaomi, the Chinese electronics company has ventured into a lot of categories already and a smartwatch was much awaited. The collaboration between the company and Huami, the startup that is famous for making the good Xiaomi Mi Band, has this time resulted in the launch of a smartwatch, the Xiaomi AmazFit.
Just like most of the smartphones, the Amazfit smartwatch will be capable of tracking the fitness of the user, and will also be able to show notifications that arrive on the connected smartphone. This Xiaomi smartwatch has a round dial and there is a thick ceramic bezel around it. The strap of AmazFit smartwatch can be replaced by the user any time, with a 22mm strap being enough for the same.
The Mi smartwatch has a 1.34-inch display with the 320 x 300 pixels screen resolution, and a dual-core processor clocking at 1.2GHz along with 512MB of RAM powers the watch. There is 4GB of internal storage and the connectivity options included in the watch are Bluetooth 4.0 and Wi-Fi. The watch comes with a heart rate monitor on the back and this is capable of constantly tracking the heart rate of the user.
There is a 280 mAh battery included in the watch and it is said to offer about five days of usage, only if the GPS mode is turned on occasionally. On the contrary, if you have the GPS mode turned on all the time, the battery lasts about 35 hours. To add about the battery life, Xiaomi claims that if you are just tracking steps, the watch can last for about 11.6 days.
It is not Android Wear but a custom software used in the smartwatch, and since it is launched in China, the AliPay app is coming installed and although the company hasn’t mentioned about it, the watch could help authorize payments through the app. The features of the watch include call and SMS notifications, phone unlock using the watch, weather display, etc. The Amazfit smartwatch is IP67 certified and thus is a water and dust resistant one.
The watch is officially priced at 799 Yuan (which is about Rs. 8000). It is going to be available from tomorrow in China, while we await to see if the company is planning to launch the watch in the other markets.
