Wove band, a product from flexible electronics company Polyera which was co-founded by Phil Inagaki who is the CEO and co-founder of the company. And Inagaki would love to call the Wove a device or a digital canvas which is said to give a mental image of a wrist-worn timepiece. Wove band is a true invention we must say as the display bends in a very comprehensive way and can be done multiple times, this allows the user to wear the band around his/her wrist.
The display is made of flexible transistors which is said to have been under development from the past two and a half years. The prototypes are here but the actual end product might take some time, according to Inagaki it will be around mid-2016 for the commercial launch to happen. The display comes with E-ink front layer which is in grayscale, the prototype show a glossy look but according to Inagaki the end products will be sporting a very matte finish to them to give the canvas like aesthetic feel to the user.
The Wove band will be coming with a 1GHz processor, Bluetooth connectivity, 4GB of storage and 9-axis motion along with haptic feedback. The Wove wearable will be running on a tweaked version of Android OS is what the company is saying. But the most impressive feature is the flexible display which wraps around almost completely the wrist. The Wove Band’s display measures 30mm x 156mm which is approximately 4680 mm square which is pretty impressive and when compared to the Apple watch display area, it is 6.5 times bigger.
The Display is said to be On always which was seen in other companies like Pebble, but this brings the battery life into question with the huge display, which mostly will be on in the clock or notifications region covering a part of the display. According to Inagaki the developers will be getting their hands on prototypes by December.
