The smartwatch market either had some top brands having smartwatches running Android Wear OS or some pretty basic ones. In the midst of them, we keep seeing some startups or companies coming up with their offerings. One of them in the recent times is the Ticwatch 2, a smartwatch that is powered by TicWear OS.
This watch isn’t running Android Wear but it is the Android OS based interface that you’d see here. The makers of this watch are calling it the most interactive smartwatch and the list of features do make it look like one. Let’s dig in to see what are the features of the TicWatch 2.
Voice interaction – Just say “Ok, Tico” and you can command the watch to check for the weather update, browse local restaurants, make phone calls, reply to messages, or call an Uber.
Touch Control – The cubic touch interface helps control things by swiping in one of the four directions.
Patented side strip touch – Scroll, select, and zoom, and control the volume by touching on the side strip of the watch and not on the front display.
Flip and Knock – The innovative gesture control works when you flip your wrist for quick calls or to activate voice interaction. Knocking the side strip of the watch lets you shuffle the songs being played.
Health and Fitness – The Ticwatch 2 has heart rate sensor and sensors for even checking the speed, distance and GPS location, thanks to the GPS included. The data would be saved to the watch and then shared with the phone when synced with it.
There are some other features including appointment scheduling, reminders, and hands-free assistance as well. The watch runs TicWear OS, which has a list of apps pre-installed onto it. Interestingly, the TicWatch 2 can be switched into Android Wear Compatibility Mode to run Android Wear apps, and the watch is compatible with both, Android and iOS.
Talking about the technical aspect, there’s a MediaTek MTK2601 dual-core chipset powering the watch under the 1.4-inch OLED display having a 400 x 400 pixels resolution. A 300 mAh battery powers the watch and it supports magnetic wireless charging. The sensors included are Optical heart rate sensor, Built-in proximity sensor, Accelerometer, and Gyroscope.
As we write this, the early bird offers of the TicWatch 2 on KickStarter, where this is put up as a crowdfunding project are all gone, and you can get the Charcoal/Snow variants for $139, or the Onyx one for $149. For the features offered, the TicWatch 2 seems very good for the price.
While we talk about these projects from crowdsourcing websites, we cannot guarantee or vouch for their delivery or whether they would be successfully made or not, but they are among the coolest ideas people have got.
