Huawei at the press conference in MWC 2017 in Barcelona has announced the new smartwatch, the Huawei Watch 2. It is the Watch 2 and Watch 2 Classic that were announced with the new Android Wear 2.0 OS, the first ones to go official with the new OS version after the LG-made Google smartwatches that were recently launched.
The Huawei Watch 2 and the Huawei Watch 2 Classic have connectivity options, with the Watch 2 having LTE as well, and the other inclusions are GPS, heart rate sensors, and NFC for Android Pay. At the first look, the watches look thicker and bigger than the predecessor even though the display size is the same, i.e. 1.2-inch circular display, and the thickness is about 12.6mm. These watches come with microphone and speakers, and the battery capacity offered in the Huawei Watch 2 is 420 mAh, which the company claims to offer about two days of usage.
Huawei has included a new low-power Watch Mode that is said to disable most of the functions and have only the watch and step-counter active, and this will give the watch about 25 days of life before asking for charging again. To support the LTE connectivity, the Huawei Watch 2 is made of plastic, while the Classic variant of the Watch 2 is made of metal. As usual, we can see the interchangeable straps in here. The Watch 2 Classic comes with a “hybrid strap” that has rubber on the inner side and leather on top so that the strap can be protected against sweat damage.
The Huawei Watch 2 and Watch 2 Classic have IP68 water resistance. The heart rate sensor on the Huawei Watch 2 and Watch 2 Classic would continuously track heart rate and both the watches have the Huawei Fit program that gives the users with personalized goals. These watches with the large design might not suit all wrists, especially of the females, thus Huawei says that the Watch Elegant and Watch Jewel will still be available for sale.
Huwaei also introduced the Huawei P10 and P10 Plus smartphones at the MWC 2017 conference.
