The Smart Listening on the Sony WH-1000XM3 offers adaptive sound control, which uses SENSE ENGINE to detect your activities such as Walking, traveling, and automatically adjust the ambient sound settings on the headphones. The Quick Attention feature is borrowed from the outgoing model, which allows users to quickly listen and communicate with others, without needing to remove the headphones. To use this feature, users need to place their right hand over the right housing to decrease the volume instantly.
The WH-1000XM3 from Sony come with a touch-based input for controlling the music or calls. To change a track, turn up or turn down the volume and take or make calls handsfree, users need to tap or swipe on the ear-housing panel. While double tapping on the panel lets you make hands-free calls, a long press on the panel opens up your phone’s AI voice assistant, such as Google Assistant or Siri.
For connectivity, the Sony WH-1000XM3s come with Bluetooth 4.2 with NFC pairing as well. While the 3.5 mm stereo audio jack offers High-Resolution Audio listening. The headphones also come with Sony’s DSEE HX™ and LDAC technologies to provide a high-quality audio experience, wirelessly.
