Altec Lansing, known more for speakers, has unveiled a pair of truly wireless earphones, and the term truly wireless is specifically for the reason that the earbuds on the two sides are wireless as well, not connected by any wire. Most of the Bluetooth headphones have earbuds connected by a wire.
Though a truly wireless earphone is not very common, there are a few in the market and Altec Lansing is trying to break the shackles by packing in a good connectivity range and battery life, in the Freedom earphones. The Freedom earbuds are waterproof (IP X7 rating), completely wireless and have a rugged looking design.
The earbuds surely are a little bigger than the standard size, and that is for the company to include a good Li-ion battery in each, making them last for about six hours on a single charge. A charging carrying case is also included, and this is said to be giving an additional three hours of usage without the need for a wall charging point, usually coming handy when traveling.
A 30-meter range of Bluetooth is what one can get, and the earbuds have controls for navigation through songs, and to control calls. A Bluetooth-based GPS tracking feature is also included, and that would need just a Companion app to work. The absence of wires means the earbuds are bound to be misplaced very easily, and that’s where the tracking feature helps.
The Altec Lansing Freedom earbuds will be sold in nine different colors, and the retail price is set at U.S. $150. One worthy competitor against the Freedom earbuds is the Earin earbuds, but they have about half the battery life compared to the Freedom earbuds.
A month ago, Altec Lansing’s Bluetooth speakers had made an entry into the Indian market, so we expect the Freedom earbuds to be available internationally in the coming months.
