Xiaomi has unveiled their first ever VR Headset which has been rumoured from quite some time. The company has launched the MI VR headset in China with an interesting ‘two-way zipper design’ which is to help making the process of inserting and to remove a smartphone in the headset easier compared to other VR headsets in the market.
The Mi VR Headset is quite compact at 201x107x91mm in dimensions and weighs 208.7 grams and is said to be supporting devices ranging from 4.7 to 5.7-inch in size. The Headset is made out of Lycra and EVA fabric which helps in keeping the weight of the Headset at the lower end and also makes it sturdy. The fabric material prevents the smartphone from becoming too hot.
The Company has used anti-glare lenses to help in improving the viewing experience with a tolerance of just 0.01mm which helps in improving the clarity and accuracy of the content to a great extent. For keeping the headset in place Xiaomi has introduced non-slip pads in the VR headset to hold the device in place. The device sports a metal button on top to help interacting with the phone, the non-slip pads also help in preventing the buttons to be accessed while using the headset.
Xiaomi has also announced a separate VR App along with an ecosystem with the VR supported content being provided by their partners Youku, they will be providing 360-degree and VR content. The company has showcased a variety of design options and colors which include graffiti and decorative designs which personally are quite odd I feel.
Xiaomi has started taking registrations for beta testing in China and they are calling this variant as Toy Edition. Users who register for this sale when selected can get the Headset for just 1 yuan. Xiaomi has not yet revealed the official launch date of the final variant and also the pricing of the device has not been revealed.
