HTC has unveiled their second-generation VR system called the Vive Pre. It is built on the first iteration of the Steam VR-powered system with a revamped, smaller headset, improved visuals and a new controlled design. The new VR system is improved not just in design aspect but also is has practical upgrades like the improved straps and interchangeable foam. This lets users with different head sizes get the perfect fit.
One major addition to the new VR system is the front facing camera which is being used as part of the “chaperone” system. With the help of the front camera now you can view the real-world objects in the virtual world and it lets you interact with other people and objects. This also prevents you from tripping over obstacles.
The feature of looking at the real world objects in virtual world is possible thanks to the haptic feedback which will allow Vive Pre users to move around and feel the VR world. There are new controllers which can be charged with micrUSB and comes with 4 hours of battery life per charge. The controllers come with better design mainly in the grip areas having two-stage triggers along with softer edges.
The Vive Pre will be available to developers at the start of this year and HTC said there will be 7,000 units available. The commercial launch of Vive Pre will be around April.
