Reliance has been very actively working on its LYF brand of smartphones but there were rumors for some time saying that the company is looking at launching a feature phone with the support and capability to have Jio 4G network working on it. Now, we finally are getting a light of it with the first leaks of one of the phones, which is reportedly said to be priced at Rs. 1199 and it will have shortcut buttons for certain Jio apps.
This could be one of the test phones given to the Jio team members for testing but still, it clearly shows what to expect from a phone that is priced below Rs. 2000. It will be a VoLTE device and it has the standard display and keypad. Four apps from Jio are going to have dedicated buttons, i.e. JioTV, MyJio, Jio Music, and Jio Cinema. One major difference from the standard smartphones is that you won’t find any cameras on this phone.
Reliance Jio has already disrupted the telecommunication space so much that every network provider has started offering discounted data costs and now if feature phones will start getting proper data support and content as well, it will be another huge change in the market. As of December 31st 2016, Reliance Jio had 72.4 million subscribers under the free offer, and now the number is on the rise with the continued offer under the name of Jio Happy New Year Offer.
