Airtel India has announced a new Set-top box powered by Android TV. Named as the Airtel InternetTV, this is a service that offers to stream the TV channels from the Internet with the only requirement that it needs to have 4 Mbps speed at the least.
The new set top box for Airtel Internet TV is available for the existing Airtel Digital TV subscribers as well who can get the box at Rs. 3999 with one-month free service. For newer customers, it is priced at Rs. 4999 for the 3-month subscription and Rs. 7999 for a one-year subscription.
Netflix is pre-loaded into the device and you can stream videos directly from your Netflix account. Built-in Chromecast helps you stream content from your smartphones. The remote control with the STB has a Google Voice option so you don’t have to type to search for anything. You can plug in a pen drive to record live TV, and downloaded apps can be stored on an SD card, a slot for which is given on the set-top box.
You have complete access to the Google Play Store and thus, can download any app from there. The Airtel Internet TV box comes with Wynk movies and there is Airtel’s own gaming store pre-loaded into the device. While you can pause the live TV and continue watching it later, there is an option to watch content on 4K resolution if you have a 4K TV and have a good Internet connectivity as the content is streamed through the Internet.
One can play games on their TV and use the smartphone as the game controller.
For now, the Airtel Internet TV is available only for select pin codes in Hyderabad, Delhi NCR, Ahmadabad, Bangalore, Mumbai, Chandigarh, Ludhiana, Panchkula, Mohali, Jaipur, Pune, Chennai, Kolkata.
