Honor’s introduction of the Honor 9 Lite was a rather surprising one after the recent launch of the Honor 7x. It’d not make sense usually but the company has worked on to bring the glass body and a rather smaller size, while making the selfie camera better on the new one.
I’ve used the Honor 9 Lite for a good amount of time before coming up with the conclusion about it. Read on to know my thoughts about the Honor 9 Lite, its design, its performance, its cameras, and the battery life of the phone. Rather, while there are only very small hiccups, I’d cut the review short to talk about what’s so good on the Honor 9 Lite.
The design
In the price range, the Honor 9 Lite seems to be the best-looking phone with that gorgeous reflective back glass and the color options that make the phone even better, Blue, Black, and Gray.
Not just with those colors, but the Honor 9 Lite is designed well even with what is offered here. The size makes it easy for a one-handed usage, with it being very comfortable thanks to the smooth corners and edges all around. Unlike the 6-inch 18:9 displays that are common and have a size of a phone of a regular 5.5-inch 16:9 display, the Honor 9 Lite here has a smaller display but it still is larger than the regular displays, keeping it at 5.65-inch, and thus the size is smaller and the phone looks gorgeous.
That 18:9 display
The Honor 9 Lite comes packed with the 5.65-inch display that offers the FullView display resolution, i.e. 2160 x 1080 pixels with the 18:9 aspect ratio. Not that this is something new from Honor as we already saw this on the Honor 7x as well, but the 9 Lite has a little smaller display and yet having the same resolution makes the display sharper. The colors come out quite well on the phone and the cover glass having the 2.5D curve makes it all a sweet combination.
The interface, and features
Look, the interface part is as always, personal, but here the Honor 9 Lite offers so much in this aspect that you cannot ignore it and cannot forget to mention that the EMUI 8.0 here is based on Android 8.0 Oreo, and it implements features of Android Oreo, just in a better way. Features like replying back to messages with PIP, just in a better way is expected only from the brands that work a lot on the interface to make it more user friendly.
Not to forget, the Honor 9 Lite has a bunch of gesture features to add to it.
The performance
The Kirin 659 has been performing well, and that is evident on the two other phones from the company, the Honor 7x and the Honor 9i. While some might want to compare this with the Snapdragon 625 chipset that powers some phones in the same price range, but the Kirin 659 has its own optimization done for the EMUI to perform perfectly well, not just with how it handles the day-to-day tasks, but also while performing intensive tasks like gaming and using the cameras.
The cameras
Especially the front cameras in this case. The Honor 9 Lite has a dual-lens camera setup on both, the front and back, with only a little difference in them, where the aperture size is better on the front cameras, as Honor recognizes how important selfies have become, and how we’ve been stressing on this part based on the number of selfies the phone galleries have started storing, unlike how it was a couple of years ago.
Both the cameras on the Honor 9 Lite can take decent portrait captures, thanks to the depth recording done by the 2MP cameras given beside the primary sensors. The color reproduction is good, and the implementation of selfie portraits done so well speaks a lot about what is on offer when compared to the other phones offered by the brands that have great phones in this price range.
Of course, to add to all this, here are a few things you would want to keep in mind if you have the Honor 7x as one of the choices to consider.
- There is a Hybrid SIM slot that offers a MicroSD option in case you are okay with a single SIM and wanted to place the storage card for expansion of the storage.
- The phone has a 3000 mAh battery that offers great stand-by, and it can last for a day with ease for the regular users.
- That fingerprint sensor is one to beat. You can rely on Honor phones for the best of the fingerprint sensor solutions that are not just good with the recognition and accuracy, but the features offered along are excellent.
