You need to go to Fingerprint app and first have to setup either Pattern or PIN lock, which would be the backup option for security. Once that is done, set what notifications should show on the lock screen. After that, you will be taken to Fingerprint Management section where you need to first turn on “Fingerprint recognition”, and then Add the fingerprint.
It will ask you to adjust the grip gesture and after a few taps on the scanner for it to learn, you are done.
