Xiaomi just launched the new Redmi 2A smartphone, and it just starts the confusion for most of them thinking to purchase the Redmi 2, which is already launched and available in India through Flipkart. Now, what is important for us to tell is how different these two phones are. The Redmi 2 was launched for about $100, and now, the Redmi 2A has a price tag of about $80. Here is what you need to know about them.
Leadcore Processor in Redmi 2A: The Xiaomi Redmi 2A comes with a Leadcore processor, and that is a Cortex A7 quad-core processor clocking at 1.5GHz, and Mali T628MP2 GPU along with 1GB LPDDR3 RAM. While on the other hand, the Redmi 2 has the Quad-core 1.2 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 processor, which seem to be much better, although we don’t know how good or bad would the Leadcore chipset be. The Snapdragon 410 is supported by Adreno 306 GPU and 1GB RAM.
Anything else is different? Interestingly, there is no difference between the Redmi 2 and Redmi 2A except for the processor. Both of them have 1GB RAM and the same 8GB internal storage with MicroSD card slot for storage expansion. Even with the camera, it is the 8 megapixel rear camera and a 2 megapixel front facing camera for taking selfies and video calling.
Both Redmi 2 and Redmi 2A have a 2200 mAh battery on the back, under a removable back cover, and both these phones have the 4G LTE connectivity, although we know the Redmi 2 has two 4G LTE SIM card slots, but nothing known about the same on Redmi 2A.
You can check the Redmi 2 pros & cons we had posted earlier to learn what is really good and what is not, if you are planning to buy a Redmi 2, and if you wanted to spend even lesser, you can then look at the Redmi 2A, although we don’t know how well it performs. Leadcore processor is something new to many, and thus it won’t be easy to quickly tell about the performance of the devices running those processors. You may also check the Moto E 2015 pros & cons, to learn more about that new phone as well.
So, that’s it about the new Redmi 2A and that compared with the Redmi 2. You will need to be wise to choose the best one, rather than the cheaper one, in this case, because it isn’t really good to switch to a Leadcore device only for a difference of about $20. There are some other phones in competition too, i.e. Lenovo A6000 and then some other from well known brands now, but still the ones produced from Xiaomi in the recent past, have been very good for standard use in such an attractive price point.
