A year after the launch of its Mi Max phablet, Xiaomi India has officially launched the Mi Max 2 in India. The Mi Max 2 comes with the same screen size, i.e. 6.44-inch and the screen resolution is also the same. But then, what has changed? The Mi Max 2 has a very different design and the internal specs too are different but how much? Check out the comparison below.
The design
The phone has become smoother, curvier on the sides and edges and now, the antenna bands are not as prominent as they were on the Mi Max, as the Mi Max 2 has the bands on the top and bottom just like they would be seen on the Xiaomi Mi 6.
On the bottom, the Mi Max 2 now has the USB Type-C connectivity instead of MicroUSB connectivity. Also, while it was a single speaker on the Mi Max, this time the Mi Max 2 has a Dual speaker with the stereo effect where one speaker is on the bottom and the other is in the earpiece area.
The display
There is not much changed with the display of the device as both come with the same 6.44-inch display with the Full HD resolution, while there is a 2.5D glass on the Mi Max 2, but the brightness, color gamut, and the pixel density remain the same.
The chipset
The Mi Max 2 this time is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 octa-core processor when compared to the Snapdragon 650/652 on the Mi Max. The variants on the Mi Max had 3GB and 4GB RAM and the processor too was different but the Mi Max 2 has a single variant with 4GB of RAM and 64GB internal storage.
The camera
While it was a 16-megapixel camera with F/2.0 aperture on the back of the Xiaomi Mi Max, the Mi Max 2 comes with a 12-megapixel rear camera with the F/2.2 aperture. Both can still record 4K videos and on the front, the two phablets have a 5-megapixel camera.
The battery
The Xiaomi Mi Max had a wonderful 4800 mAh battery and in comparison to that, the Mi Max 2 has come with a mammoth 5300 mAh battery. The battery size has increased and that leads to a little increase in the weight, but then you get a better battery life. Also, the Mi Max 2 now has the support for Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0 that was not present on the previous phone. Thanks to the Quick Charge support, you get 68% of charge in 60 minutes.
The OS and interface
The Xiaomi Mi Max currently has MIUI based on Android Marshmallow and it is said that it will receive the Android Nougat based update soon. On the other hand, the newly launched Mi Max 2 comes with Android 7.1.1 Nougat based MIUI 8.5 and even this will receive the MIUI 9, but the good thing here is that it is already having the Android Nougat OS.
With the few other basic things, both the phones don’t differ a lot and as mentioned above, the stereo speaker effect on the Mi Max 2 is another good addition done by the company. As for the upgrade, it doesn’t really call for an upgrade if you are thinking to move from the Mi Max to the new Mi Max 2 because even though the battery has got better, nothing else is so good to make you move away from your Mi Max.
So quick with the comparison!
a really great successor for low price!!
