The E-series from Motorola was always known for their value-oriented devices that came with an affordable price tag. Thanks to the stock Android and decent internals, the phones although aren’t earth-shatteringly fast, offer acceptable performance and can keep up with day-to-day tasks with ease. The Lenovo owned company has recently launched their latest E-series smartphone, the Motorola Moto E5 Plus, in India, as successor to the outgoing Motorola Moto E4 Plus. So, how much of an upgrade does the Motorola Moto E5 Plus offer over the Motorola Moto E4 Plus? Let us find out through a quick spec comparison.
Motorola Moto E5 Plus vs Motorola Moto E4 Plus
Design and Display
Regarding design, both the phones feature a curved design that we have seen since the launch of the first E-series phone. Motorola has now cleverly moved the front mount fingerprint scanner from the E4 Plus to the rear, which currently resides in the moto dimple. The Moto E5 Plus’s back is made out of 3D Polymer Glass whereas the E4 Plus has a plastic back.
Regarding displays, although both the phones use the same display technology which is IPS LCD, both the screens have a different aspect ratio. The new Moto E5 Plus comes with a taller 6-inch HD+ display with a resolution of 1440×720 pixels, whereas the E4 Plus comes with the traditional 16:9 aspect ratio screen which is spread across 5.5-inches and has 1280×720 pixels of HD resolution.
Processor RAM & Storage
As for the processor, Motorola has opted for a Snapdragon 450 chipset paired with Adreno 505 GPU, to power the Moto E5 Plus. The Moto E4 Plus, on the other hand, came with a MediaTek MT6737 chipset. Both the phone comes with 3 GB RAM and 32 GB storage as well as including support for storage expansion via the microSD card slot.
Cameras
The Moto E5 Plus comes with a 12 MP rear facing shooter which sits behind a f/2.0 lens and comes with a pixel size of 1.25um. To the front, the E5 Plus features a 5 MP selfie shooter. There’s hybrid autofocus which includes both Phase Detection AutoFocus and a Laser Autofocus, a first for the E-series phones.
The Moto E4 Plus, on the other hand, features a 13 MP rear camera with a f/2.0 aperture. The front-facing selfie shooter on the E4 Plus is a 5 MP unit with f/2.4 aperture and an 84° wide lens.
Battery
The battery capacity remains the same between the E5 Plus and the previous Gen E4 Plus, packing in an enormous 5000 mAh battery. Given that the E5 Plus now sports a Snapdragon processor, it could have a slight edge over the E4 Plus which features a MediaTek chipset. The two phones top-up at the same rate using the bundled 10 W rapid charger bundled.
OS & Interface
The newer Moto E5 Plus runs on Android 8.0 Oreo, whereas the E4 Plus comes with the ancient Android 7.1.1 Nougat. Thankfully neither of the two phones come with added bloatware and instead come with Moto Assist features, to make your usage easier.
Pricing
The Moto E5 Plus with 3 GB of RAM and 32 GB internal storage comes at INR 11,999. In contrast, users can purchase the E4 Plus for INR 8,999 for the 3 GB RAM and 32 GB internal storage.
Thanks for the comparison! The only problem is Motorola sucks at getting updates!!
Back in the days, Moto E 1st gen was the only option available which was also affordable! And now they don’t want to compete!!!
