LG G5 vs LG G4 Comparison: Similarities & Differences

Flagship successors are expected to come with a lot more than what was in the predecessor, since there is a lot in the world of technology that happens in a year that can help the companies pack them in the newer devices. That’s what we would expect from the top-tier brands like Samsung, LG, HTC and such. Samsung is known to come up with subtle changes sometimes and huge overhauls occasionally. But LG on the other hand, is a brand that doesn’t really compromise.

The LG G5 is official now, and we are looking at a phone that has a lot, and LG went ahead to retain a removable battery while keeping the metal body intact. How? by giving a provision to pull out the battery from the bottom. Let’s see how this new smartphone compares itself against the LG G4 that was announced last year, and it was called as one of the best cameraphones of 2015.

Differences between LG G5 and LG G4

Let’s start with the display. The LG G5 now has an always-on display that shows time, date, and notifications towards the top, and the white text adjusts its brightness based on the surrounding light. The LG4 had a standard display with no always-on feature.

LG had thoughtfully packed a Snapdragon 808 chipset last year, but this time, it made no mistake as the flagship Snapdragon 820 processor from Qualcomm is what is powering the smartphone.

While it is still the Android 5.1 Lollipop OS running in the LG G4, the G5 comes with Android 6.0 Marshmallow OS.

This time, LG has a flat back on the G5 with the thickness of 7.7mm, compared to the 6.3-9.8mm thickness curving from thick center to thinner side on the LG G5.

The battery capacity goes down a bit, with the G5 packing a 2800 mAh battery against a 3000 mAh one on the G4.

The G5 has USB Type-C connectivity with support for quick charging, with Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0 technology, while the MicroUSB 2.0 on LG G4 could support Quick Charge 2.0.

LG G5 has two cameras on the rear: one with a standard 78-degree lens and another with a 135-degree wide-angle lens, while the LG G4 had a 16MP camera on the back.

There are a lot more differences than this, but we will add them with time, as and when we learn about the feature that gives LG G5 an edge over its predecessor. Although the battery capacity is lesser and the LG G4 was already not so good with the battery life, we are hoping that the Doze feature and UI enhancements in LG G5 might help save some battery and give a longer usage.
