Lenovo has launched its competitor to the Xiaomi Mi Max in India, and it is the Lenovo Phab 2 Plus. Interestingly, even if there were several phablets available in the market, there was no large competitor that was worthy of a mention against the Mi Max, but now, Lenovo has one with the same screen size and good specifications.
Thin bezels on the front, metal back plates, and the form factor – this is all what makes the two devices quite similar but there are some important differences that will make decision tougher for someone looking to buy a large phablet. Let’s see how the two fare against each other.

Lenovo Phab 2 Plus vs Xiaomi Mi Max – Similarities
- Both have almost the same screen size – 6.4 vs. 6.44 inch, but the resolution is the same on both, i.e. a 1920 x 1080 pixels resolution.
- Both the devices have 32GB internal storage with a MicroSD card support for expansion of up to 128GB.
- There is 3GB of RAM on both the phablets.
- There is a fingerprint scanner provided on both the devices, placed on the back just below the camera.
- There is 4G LTE with VoLTE support offered on both the phablets, supporting the Jio 4G network that is the only VoLTE network right now in India.
- The Phab 2 Plus and Mi Max both have the MicroUSB 2.0 connectivity and they don’t support fast charging of the battery.
Lenovo Phab 2 Plus vs Xiaomi Mi Max – Differences
- Processor: This is the major difference where the chipsets powering the phablets are quite different. While the Xiaomi Mi Max is powered by the Hexa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 650 processor, the Lenovo Phab 2 Plus comes powered with the MediaTek MT8783 octa-core processor.
- Rear camera: The Lenovo Phab 2 Plus comes with a Dual-camera setup on the back with two 13-megapixel cameras supported by laser autofocus and phase detection autofocus, while the Mi Max comes with a 16-megapixel rear camera supported by the phase detection autofocus.
- Front camera: The Lenovo phablet comes with an 8-megapixel front facing camera and on the other side, the Xiaomi one has a 5-megapixel front-facing shooter.
- Audio output: While the Xiaomi Mi Max doesn’t have any special speaker inclusion, the Lenovo Phab 2 Plus has the Dolby Atmos support for the dual stereo speakers.
- Infrared: The Mi Max has an Infrared sensor for the device to be used as a quick remote for smart electronics.
- Battery capacity: This is where the Mi Max is quite better with a 4850 mAh battery compared to the 4050 mAh one on the Phab 2 Plus.
Price comparison
Both the devices have the exact same price, i.e. Rs. 14999. The Mi Max does have a better Prime variant but the basic one that we have talked about here is priced at Rs. 14999.
So, which is the better phablet?
The two devices have their own USPs against each other and here, the Mi Max should be the choice if you are looking for a better battery and some inclusions like the Infrared sensor and a better UI, but on the other side, if you are on a hunt for a better camera combination, the Lenovo Phab 2 Plus should be the choice.
