Blackmagic Design has announced a new 4k camera called Pocket Cinema Camera 4k today at NAB 2018. The new sensor mount used on the camera is now active and supports Electronic Image Stabilization(EIS) on both, the camera and the lens. The new Pocket Cinema Camera 4k is a successor to the original Pocket Cinema Camera which shot videos at a maximum resolution of 1080p.

The camera features dual native ISO up to 25,600 for incredible low-light performance. It has 13 stops of dynamic range for the cinematic look. For storage, the camera comes with two slots, a UHS II/SD card slot, as well as the CFast 2.0 card slot. You can also record to any external USB-C SSD using the USB-C port.
For Video, Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 4K can record 4K images at up to 60 frames per second and FULL HD at up to 120 frames per second (although the crop factor is still unknown). It supports CinemaDNG RAW, CinemaDNG RAW 3:1, CinemaDNG RAW 4:1, ProRes 422 HQ QuickTime, ProRes 422 QuickTime, ProRes 422 LT QuickTime, ProRes 422 Proxy QuickTime recording formats. As for the ports, the Pocket Cinema Camera 4K includes a Full HDMI port, Mini XLR input for high res audio recording, along with the USB C port. The battery life on the camera is just 60 mins. It features a 5 inch touchscreen display using which users can adjust settings by simple taps and gesture input in the Blackmagic OS allowing users to accurately focus while recording. You can still use any of the lenses from the common lens mount used by Panasonic, Olympus, and others.
The camera can be controlled remotely using a Bluetooth remote. The camera also includes full license for DaVinci Resolve Studio for editing, color, visual effects and audio post production. The new Pocket Cinema Camera is made up of carbon fiber polycarbonate composite material and is priced at USD 1295. The camera will be available worldwide and will start shipping from September 2018.
