Piaggio has now commenced the production of its Aprilia SR 150 scooter in India. The domestic production of the scooter is going to happen at the company’s Baramati facility in Maharashtra, and the bike will be introduced in the Indian market by the end of the year.
The Aprilia SR 150 was showcased at the 2016 Auto Expo in India, and it doesn’t actually look like a scooter, giving itself a sportier look, thus you should not expect it to be in the price range of standard scooters. It has 14-inch allow wheels, twin headlamps and a single seat, which should again limit the number of people interested in getting this.
The scooter has a 154.4cc 3-valve, air-cooled, single-cylinder engine, and even this engine is already being made in India and is powering the Vespa 150 scooter. While being paired with a CVT unit, the engine will be able to produce 12PS of power and 11Nm of torque. The bike also has a front disk brake and a rear drum brake, which are 220mm and 130mm respectively.
Aprilia is a well-known name for a brand under Piaggio, and the motorcycle brand had a few models including Caponord 1200, Mana 850 GT, Tuono, SRV 850, and now the SR 150. It was only Vespa in India that was selling a 150cc scooter, but now, the Aprilia SR 150 will be a choice, only for those who don’t mind spending some extra cash but are looking for a better looking model to purchase.
