Ford has launched their most iconic car, the Mustang in India carrying a price tag of Rs. 65 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). The Mustang has been an icon in the muscle car world with its aggressive and solid build with looks to kill for. This look has made it a popular for movies as well, from as old as 1964 which it featured in Goldfinger and many movies after that. One of the famous ones being Gone in 60 seconds along with Transformers as Bumbelbee (the yellow mustang) which got it known all around the world.
It not just has killer looks but has some amazing power as well under the hood, with a 5.0L V8 petrol engine which delivers around 400 BHP or brake horse-power capable of taking the car to a top speed of 250km/hr. It comes with a massive 401 PS of peak power. The car was showcased at the Greater Noida Auto Expo in February earlier this year.
With the launch of Mustang, the other competitors in the market like Mercedes, Audi, Ferrari, Maserati, BMW will be on their heals as the very popular Mustang which has almost 9 million units sold throughout the world since 1964. Commenting on the launch, Anurag Mehrotra, sales and marketing director at Ford India, said, “India is an important market for the Mustang, and we are confident of its success on its iconic status and power-packed features,” he added that that in India the market for sports coupes is around 2,400 cars. Ford India’s executives said that they have received “healthy inquiries” about the model being launched, but did not mention any specific targets for this year.
Ford has introduced a right-hand drive version of the Mustang last year and this has paved way for the company to launch the car in India after being manufactured in U.S. The company has sold around 1,10,000 Mustangs in 2015 making it one of the most selling sports coupes in India. There are as many as 35,300 premium cars sold last year in India and it is expected to reach around 87,000 by 2020 which is healthy growth accounting to around 15 percent per annum during 2015-18.
Carrying a price tag of Rs. 65 lakhs (on-road price Delhi) we can be sure to see many Mustangs zooming on Indian roads in the near future with the company promising to increase their presence in other cities like Chandigarh, Jaipur, Pune, Bangalore, Chennai, and Hyderabad gradually.
