The camera app that comes with the Pixel smartphones can be tried out by Nexus smartphone users, i.e. the Nexus 5X and 6P that are the only one supported currently, and you can try it out if you have one of these Nexus phones to check out how Google has improved the camera app to work with the latest hardware, though these features can work well on the Nexus phones as well.
One of the requirements for the Pixel camera app to work on the specified Nexus devices is that they should be running the official Android 7.0 Nougat ROM, i.e. the official build and not any custom ROM of Android 7.0.
Thanks to the XDA Developers team, who as always, work on such things and this time, the camera that adds functionality to the current one is introduced by them. Though, according to them, this Pixel camera app won’t replace the current camera app on the Nexus phones. You might have to delete the existing Google camera app in order to see this one get installed on your Nexus 5X or 6P. Or if you are okay with it, the sideloaded app will stay beside the default camera app and you can choose which one to use.
According to the early users who have already tried installing and using it, there are improvements seen in the speed, and some report of even a better stabilization while recording videos. We haven’t personally tried it and thus, won’t believe the feedback already, but it shouldn’t stop you from trying out this app if you have one of the last Nexus smartphones.
Go on, try downloading and installing the app. Don’t expect huge changes but what’s the harm in trying if you see even a bit of difference? Download Google Camera APK from here.
People have also been able to install Pixel Contacts (1.4.22) and Dialer (5.1.131226882) and the feedback on that too has been positive for those who are using it on the Nexus devices.
