One would’ve never thought to see WhatsApp, Facebook, or its messenger app to be out of the top positions in the Google Play Store, and even if we expected that to happen, there was rarely going to be an Indian app taking the first position in one of the largest app stores in the world for smartphones.
You’ll have to believe it when Reliance Industries Limited is the owner is these apps. These apps are all a part of a promotion right now. Reliance is offering the free Jio SIM with an offer (Jio Welcome Offer) where you get to use all of the services for free for a few months. The requirement there is to download one app and generate the code. It is the MyJio app that has to be downloaded, and guess what – it is downloaded so much that it is the no. 1 app on Google Play Store in the Free apps category, irrespective of the sub-category.
Now, it isn’t only the My Jio App that you would see on the top charts. There are a few others as well, and a total of eight apps from Reliance have climbed to the top 10, with only WhatsApp and Messenger holding themselves in the chart.
It is known that the top charts are not decided by only the numbers because if that was the case, WhatsApp has over a billion downloads, while the no. 1 app MyJio has around 10 million downloads. The next in the list, i.e. JioCinema has over 1 million downloads, but it is the amount of time it took for these downloads to happen, contributing as a factor for the ranking.
Here’s the list of top 20 free apps on Google Play Store as of now, which could change soon but we’re sure the Jio apps might not lose positions anytime soon.

It is almost the entire set of apps that you see listed under MyJio that it offers to download and it was one of the tricks to see the Get Jio SIM option in the app, where you have to download all those apps, and thus even if there is no actual usage of those apps, the downloads did happen and the purpose for that was the free SIM at offer.

MyJio though will not struggle hard to maintain the ranking because it is the app using which one would be able to access most of the Jio services and account details, making it an almost compulsory app to use if you are a Jio subscriber. You’ll be able to recharge your number, check the balance and usage, get statements and even talk to the Jio Care from within the app.
If you want to try out the Jio services and get the SIM, you know you’ll have to first download the MyJio app and generate the barcode that is necessary to show on your 4G smartphone.
