Call it an inspiration, or copy, but the pricing and count of family members allowed by the new plan announced for Google Play Music, is exactly the same as it was for Apple Music. The new Google Play Music Family plan is just announced, and it allows users to have up to six different profiles, for family members.
The plans will be available later this year, and they will allow six members to have their own profiles and get music recommendations based on their personal taste. Although it is the same with pricing and number of family members, Google is betting on the service integration to attract families to opt for it.
The price is set at $14.99 per month, exactly the same price at which Apple Music is offering its family plan. The song streaming on Google Play Music is possible on web browsers, chromecasts, Android TV device, and even other music players. Google Play Music also works on iPhone and iPad, not just Android phones.
Since Apple Music is majorly for Apple iPhones, Google is hoping to lure users who already are using Apple Music or the other music streaming services such as Spotify and Rdio. And the family plan is what can get them those users, since the dedicated services like the ones mentioned above, don’t have any such family plans available for the users.
Google Play Music is currently available in 58 countries. The family plan for Play Music will be available later this year, but there is no exact date mentioned for the same.
At the event today, Google announced the Nexus 5X, Nexus 6P, the two new Chromecasts, a Pixel C tablet, and a new Nexus Protect extended warranty plan as well.
