Xiaomi India has launched the Mi VR Play virtual reality headset in India. To be available from December 21st, the Mi VR Play headset is priced at Rs. 999. The headset was launched in China months back, but in India, it won’t be only the regular ones but limited edition VR Play headsets will also be made available during the sales. This is not the only recent VR headset that was launched by Xiaomi, though. Before this, Xiaomi even launched one with plastic build in October.
Let’s talk about the one launched in India. This Mi VR Play headset is compatible with Google Cardboard, and it comes with the two-way zipper design, which the company says is easy to insert and remove the smartphone, and also making sure that the phone stays in the pocket and does not fall out, unlike the case with other headsets. Enjoying VR photos, watching 360-degree VR videos on YouTube and live events from Mi are all possible with this headset.
The Google Play Store already has a huge list of VR apps available and with the Mi VR Play headset, most of them can be used with ease. Using the lightweight Lycra material to make this unit, Xiaomi says that the entire headset weighs 208.7 grams. There is anti-reflective glass in place for a clear viewing, and a textured metal button is provided for the users to get to touch the screen of the phone, and between these two, a silicone button will actually make the contact.
Xiaomi says that the headset is able to fit phones of sizes from 4.7-inch to 5.7-inch, and devices like Xiaomi Mi Note, iPhone 6, 6 Plus can also be easily used with it. The headset does look quite good with the design, and given how Xiaomi accessories have always been, expect it to do well with the functionality as well. There are non-slip pads included as well. Mi Live is a new app introduced by Xiaomi and that will stream the Mi events in 360-degree view, and it is already available on Google Play.
