Reliance Jio is not just a telecommunication service but a bundle of offerings in the different spaces of technology. This was known earlier too when Reliance Jio Infocomm Ltd. had started the JioFiber line activation under testing but now, we are getting to know more about the other services as well. One of them is the Jio DTH service that is going to come soon, and the Jio Car Connect OBD service for cars, which is still under testing.
While the test is going on, we know a lot about it and below are the features that the Car Connect app will offer, and what the OBD device will have in your car.
What’s the Jio OBD device?
A short for On-board diagnostics, OBD from Jio is a small device that will sit in your car and make the automobile a connected one. Every car has an OBD port, mostly below the steering where the driver’s leg controls are. The hardware device is connected to that port and that gives the device not just power to run but also vital data of the vehicle.
How will the Reliance Jio OBD dongle work?
Just like a normal Internet dongle, this will require an Internet connectivity, and for that, it will be a Reliance Jio 4G SIM that has to be inserted in the OBD device. Once that is inserted, the data is activated, and the dongle works as a hotspot for you to connect your smartphone and then use any of the Jio apps at your will.
Alongside that, you will get to use the Jio Car Connect app to know how your car is doing in the different vitals. One of the major advantages of the device is that if you are subscribed to one of the Jio plans, you will be able to make free voice calls from the Jio hotspot on your mobile phone using the Jio4GVoice app.
What is all car information shown in Car Connect app?
Following is the vital car information showed by the Jio Car Connect app on your smartphone, only if your OBD device is connected with the car.
- Fuel Info
- Distance Info
- Speed Info
- Battery Info
- Water levels
- Temperature
- Oil levels
- Vehicle Info
Apart from that, you will be shown the personal info and some driving tips to drive sound and safe. Some alerts, apart from the vitals are shown in the app.
- Door alert
- Panic alert
- Fuel alert
- Speed alert
- Harsh brake
These are some important alerts that would alert in the important times when it is unsafe. If you have one of the doors open, or if the fuel is getting close to empty, the phone will be alerted of the same.
It is also said that the OBD device can turn the AC of your car ON while you are going towards it and there are driving patterns recorded and shown for you to understand if there was an unsafe driving pattern.
Launch date for Jio Car Connect OBD
While there is no proper date known for the same, we know that the device is under testing and development and very close to the launch and it will be after the JioFiber broadband and Jio DTH service that the connected car platform from Jio will be launched.
