While there is no official announcement made by the company, Gionee has started selling a VR headset in the offline market, and it is named as the Gionee VR Glass. Just like the other products from the company, the VR Glass does look good with design and it has the new Gionee branding, indicating that it has started selling only recently.
The VR Glass from Gionee is available at the Reliance Digital stores and we got to know that the price of the same is Rs. 2499. It does resemble some of the standard headsets available in the market already, but there’s a couple of differences here.
The headset’s strap that would go over the head has a cushioning so that it feels relaxing rather than stressful when using the headset for a long time. Also, there’s an OK button that, according to the presenter here, is to confirm the distance of the glass within the headset after orienting it with the smartphone.
Most of the VR headsets offer only the viewing experience, but with the Gionee VR Glass, there are headphone attachments in-built and these extend out from the headset to offer an isolated audio experience while viewing VR-based content. The smartphone would rest within the plastic enclosure on the front and there is nothing that would hold the device in position, but closing the enclosure ensures that the phone is in place.
While we tried to find out if there are any other stores selling the Gionee VR Glass headset, most of the other retailers have no information but Reliance Digital is selling it. We’ll try to get more information on this from the company, whether it is also going to put it up for sale in the eCommerce platforms as well.
