Apple has launched their latest accessory, a Lightning to SD card reader which is compatible with iPhone and iPad models. Earlier Apple launched another accessory, a strange looking Smart Battery case for iPhone 6s and 6 which promises to increase talk time up to 25 hours.
The new Lightning to SD card reader supports USB 3.0 speeds but only restricted to the iPad Pro, on all other iPad and iPhone models (iPhone 5 and later, iPad 3rd Gen and later) it gives USB 2.0 speeds. With USB 3.0 support, it allows data transfer speeds upwards of 60MB/s to a maximum of 625MB/s. Whereas with USB 2.0 it allows transfer data speeds of around 25 to 35MB/s.
With only the iPad Pro having the hardware to support USB 3.0 speeds thanks to the Fresco Logic FL1100 4-port USB 3.0 Host Controller. With this feature Apple might also upgrade their other adapters like Lightning to USB camera adapter and Lightning cables to support USB 3.0 speeds helping in transferring files from your computer to iPad Pro and vice versa very fast.
The Lightning to SD card reader supports standard photo formats like JPEG and RAW along with SD and HD video formats – H.264 and MPEG-4. The new Lightning to SD card reader by Apple is available on Apple Online Store in US and priced at $29, it is available in UK for £25 and $35 in Canada.
