With the recent leaks about the iPhone 7 revealing the design of both variants, iPhone 7 and the bigger iPhone 7 Plus which pointed at a missing 3.5mm jack. With this new leaked image of the EarPods for the iPhone 7 showing the Lightning connector confirming the earlier leaks. From the image, we can see that the end piece housing the lightning connector is quite huge.
With the removal of the 3.5mm socket hopefully the iPhone will be slimmer, but we can never say as in the case of the LeEco LeMax 2 which in spite of the missing 3.5mm jack is quite thick. With the use of lightning connection for the earpods we can expect that there will be more accessories being manufactured for the connector.
It has to be seen how well the market accepts the missing 3.5mm jack, as this will make it impossible to listen to music while keeping your iPhone for charging. When you are traveling it is a problem and with most of the manufacturers option out of the 3.5mm jack hopefully we can see new accessories coming into the market. To make use of the already existing Earphones or Headphones which come with 3.5mm jack you need to buy an adapter etc.
the only other option will be Bluetooth supporting headphones which are quite costly at the moment in the market for a good set and hopefully there will be cheaper alternatives entering the market. With the end of the port being quite thick, we can hope that these are not as fragile as the earlier earphones which are always prone to breakage.
There is another possibility of the thick port end housing the audio DAC to give better sound, which is not clear. With the Chines market famous for counterfeit headphones we cannot be 100% sure about these EarPods as well as they have been leaked on the Chinese Social Network Weibo.
