Google has promised that the Android One series of devices will be one of the first to get regular OS updates, the devices are basically the budget friendly versions of smartphones running on Stock Android much like the younger siblings to the Nexus devices. According to several reports the Android One set of devices belonging to companies like Micromax (Canvas A1), Spice (Dream UNO Mi-498 ), Karbon (Sparkle V) have started getting the latest Android 6.0 Marshmallow update.
The Android One devices which were launched running on Android KitKat 4.4 had received Android 5.1 update directly in March and have been further upgraded to Android 5.1.1 Lollipop back in June. This latest Android 6.0 Marshmallow update will keep them in line with the Nexus devices in receiving the latest OS from Google.
Google had started rolling out Android 6.0 Marshmallow to Nexus devices starting yesterday, the update had to be downloaded and installed, no Over the Air update has been given to the Nexus devices yet. According to the images, we ca see that the Android 6.0 Marshmallow Over-the-Air update is 338.1 MB for the Android One smartphones which come with similar ROM specifications thus having a similar file size.
Android 6.0 Marshmallow comes with some important updates like new Doze battery saving features to help save battery by cutting off background activity using motion detection when the phone is in standby, ready to give alerts like alarms, calls etc. Some other important features with the new OS are App Permissions, Web Experience, App Links, Mobile Payments, Fingerprint Support for device sporting a sensor.
The update has not been released for all Android One devices but is being done in batches, so if you are an Android One user please be patient and keep checking the Software update section as some might receive it earlier and some might get it late.
