“Today, we will write history” is what Reliance Industries Limited chairman Mukesh Ambani said to commence and make a public announcement of the Reliance Jio mobile services while addressing the Annual General Meeting of RIL today. He dedicated Jio to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for 1.2 billion Indians.
The confident Mukesh Ambani says that Jio will take India to the top 10 globally when it comes to mobile Internet broadband services, while it is 155th in the world right now. The mention of 1.2 billion Indians was done quite a few times, and while doing that, the chairman said it is a fundamental right for every Indian to live a life full of freedom, which is the core meaning of “Jio”.
Jio network stands on these pillars:
- Best quality broadband network – True 4G covering 18000 cities and 2 lakh villages, VoLTE, an all-IP network that talks only one language – Internet. This makes it ready for 5G and 6G networks. Jio is a data-strong network built for the Internet.
- Devices – 70% of the all smartphones sold in India are 4G devices, and 4G phones are available at even Rs. 4000, and today, Reliance Digital is announcing LYF phones starting at Rs. 2999, and the JioFi devices at Rs. 1999. With this, the company has ensured that the entry price for 4G is affordable.
- Applications – Apps like JioTV, JioMagazine, JioNews, etc. A complete 1-year subscription worth Rs. 15000 is being given as a complimentary one.
- Principles – A revolutionary concept in Indian market – Free voice calls! To any network, no roaming – One India forever. Rs. 50 per GB data plans.
Jio Tariff Plans start from Rs. 149 monthly plan going up to Rs. 4999 for heaviest data users.
By March 2017, Jio is expected to cover 90% of the Indian population. It is said to have the lowest data rates anywhere in the world. There is an Aadhaar based signup available with a 5-minute process to get the Jio SIM.
My the middle of 2017, Reliance is planning to add one million Wi-Fi hotspots across India and thus Wi-Fi plans are added for the Jio subscribers. Jio is also offering affordable discounted prices for the subscribers.

Jio Student Plan
Any student with a valid Jio ID card will get 25% more data on the same Jio plans that are available for normal subscribers.
In addition, Jio is working to give schools and colleges connectivity through its network Wi-Fi hotspots.
