Xiaomi, the Chinese company involved in both, smartphone software and hardware is reportedly in talks to set up two manufacturing plants in India. This comes as a news after the company’s recent application to set up single-brand retail stores in the country.
The report also mentions that the year won’t have only the Redmi Note 3 and Xiaomi Mi5 as the launches from Xiaomi, as the company is planning to launch more devices by the end of the year. Almost 3/4th of the smartphones of Xiaomi for India are manufactured by Foxconn in its plant located in Sri City, Andhra Pradesh.
Expectedly, the talks are with Foxconn to open the two new plants, as Xiaomi plans to pump up its productions to meet the demand of consumers here. The plans are so rampant that Xiaomi expects one of the plants to be fully operational within this year.
What comes as another good news, is that Bin Lin, president of Xiaomi, mentions that it is not just smartphones but also accessories and mobile components that Xiaomi is looking at manufacturing in India. “We’ve already started working on bringing some of those local sourcing suppliers to India,” Lin said.
After having a silent 2015, Xiaomi has begun 2016 with the launch of Redmi Note 3 phablet with an impressive price for the specs and in the coming weeks, the company’s flagship Mi5 is expected to be launched. If this is added by a couple of other devices and some accessories, Xiaomi should probably jump back into the top-5 list in India, which it lost last year.
