A virtual reality headset isn’t easy to purchase because of the price tag it carries, but we are talking about those VR headsets that come with their own display and have a lot to offer. For starters, there is Google Cardboard. It is much better in a way because it doesn’t matter if you have a super strong PC or not, or if you have a powerful smartphone because Cardboard works with any Android phone running Android 4.1 Jelly Bean and later.
There are a lot of apps available in the Play Store that you can use with your Google Cardboard to enjoy the VR experience to an extent that you otherwise wouldn’t ever have. These apps vary in the types of content they provide, but all these apps that I’ve listed here definitely offer a great Virtual Reality Experience with just your smartphone and the Google Cardboard.
Google Cardboard App (Free)
The official Google Cardboard App is the app that you should begin your cardboard experience with. It includes a lot of demos that you can straightforward play on your device and enjoy the VR experience directly from just this app. The demos that this app includes are the Wolf Demo, with a scenic mountain view along with a few others that you can browse.
Google Cardboard Camera (Free)
With the usual Google Camera App, you can take 360-degree panorama shots, and with the Google Cardboard Camera App, you can record that is something similar to that. You can record a 360-degree stereoscopic panorama, with audio so that your friends and family who have a Google Cardboard can enjoy the view along with slight commentary from you.
Orbulus (Free)
Orbulus is another great app that you have to try. There’s no option of not trying it if you own a Google Cardboard. The app lets you visit places around the world in Virtual Reality. It lets you visit places like the Sydney Opera House, San Francisco, Paris and even inside a washing machine, if you ever wanted to experience that.
Rollercoaster (Free)
Rollercoaster, as the name suggests, takes you on a virtual ride of a roller coaster. It puts you in the front seat of a rollercoaster, that goes too high and then suddenly drops. It might not be safe for you if you are scared of heights, but this app might be able to help you overcome that fear! Give this app a try to enjoy the rollercoaster ride of your life that you always wanted to.
VR Jurassic Land (Free)
If you or your kids love Dinosaurs, then look no further. This VR app has you covered as it lets you live on the edge by sitting in a safari to travel around the Jurassic Park to meet dinosaurs. There are a few dinosaurs available right now and more are expected to come really soon. This app lets you use it with either the Google Cardboard or even the Samsung Gear VR.
VR Zombie Defense (Free)
Ever imagined what would it feel like shooting Zombies and filling them with your own hands in a virtual reality setting? This app is one of those games that you can play on your Google Cardboard without the need for a controller or anything. Just look around for Zombies and start shooting them by just aiming at them from your Cardboard.
Hang Gliding (Free)
Hang Gliding is another interesting app that lets you try out the sport of Hang Gliding, without having to leave your seat. It is built by the same people who built the Rollercoaster app, building even intense fear of the mountains and high speed rapids directly in the app.
Bored of Google Cardboard but don’t want to spend a lot on those VR headsets that do a lot more? Here are some budget VR headsets that you should take a look at.
