Dell is finally back with a new tablet design and this time it turns a tablet in to a laptop with the help of magnets. We have seen Dell working with similar designs in the past as well. Earlier XPS12 used a spinning display which could be flipped to a tablet. This time Dell presents a new idea to turn XPS 12 in a tablet with the help of magnets.
It is not actually a laptop, it is rather a tablet which has an external keyboard and a trackpad. The tablet has a 12.5 inch display and you will even find a 4k option to choose from. The tablet can be used as a laptop by sliding it in the keyboard. You can carry and take this tablet just like a laptop anywhere, thanks to those magnets for keeping it secure.
All the components are provided in the tablet itself, making the keyboard just an external addition to the tablet. Since this time the product uses magnets to attach the tablet with the keyboard, it may become a hassle sometimes to fix both of them properly.
Dell is providing two USB Type-C ports which is really beneficial for those who have more than 1 device using USB Type-C. XPS 12 also allows you to use a stylus but that needs to bought separately.
Under the hood there is Intel’s Core M5 processor and this makes XPS 12 one of those few devices who run on this chip. Apart from that you get 8GB of RAM and different storage options.
The tablet will begin to ship by the end of the year but company plans to do it by next month itself. The device would be available in two different models, one would be priced at $999 and will come with HD Display, 128GB storage and 8 gigs of RAM whereas the second model priced at $1299 will come with a 4k display and 256 gigs of storage. Both the models will come with the same 2.7GHz M5 processor.
It would be really interesting to see how well XPS 12 performs in front of Surface tablets. Also, will this new design stand out? What do you think? Do let us know below.
