The mid-range smartphone market is as ever competitive one and that leads to a lot of confusion for the users who is looking to spend a decent amount of money but is not sure which phone would deliver the best based on the requirements. There are not more than a couple of brands that would come to the mind of an avid smartphone enthusiast who wants to even suggest a phone in that range. One of them, that has seen a lot of rising is Honor, the sub-brand of Huawei. Honor had recently brought the Honor 8X to the Indian market with the refresh in the design, upgrade to the internals, and bringing a perfect balance of the features and the price set for it.
The Honor 8X comes with a few features and there are several of them as a reason why one would want to take this over the rivals, but let’s talk about each of them in detail to understand what’s so good in the offering from Honor.
The design
There are certain designs that we call perfect. While they show off with the exquisite look, they don’t really have to be priced high to do that. The design of the Honor 8X is just that, with a perfect amalgamation of minimalist design and sophisticated craftsmanship. The phone has an aurora glass body and thin bottom border using innovative chip-on-film technology. It also has the 2.5D double texture aurora glass body and that is complemented with the metal frame on the side, for not just the good looks, but to give it enough rigidity. Holding the phone will tell you how good the comfort and feel is.
Super Performer
The Hisilicon Kirin 710 chipset’s prowess was already shown in one of the Huawei’s phones, but the Honor 8X is the first Honor smartphone to offer octa-core Kirin 710 chipsets. The phone has been doing well even for the heavy users, and that is because the CPU’s single-core performance represents an increase of 75% compared to the previous generation and the 12nm processing has helped boost the performance. It hasn’t been a single time when I got worried about the performance of the phone, while gaming, or even while having multiple apps in the background.
The GPU Turbo
GPU is what does all the work in putting out the extreme graphics onto the display. While the Kirin 710 is supported by a good GPU, it is Honor’s work with the GPU turbo that has changed the way graphics are rendered. The GPU Turbo is a hardware-software integration and graphics processing acceleration technology that optimize the mobile gaming experience and it had already been shown on the flagship phones from Honor, and this coming into the mid-range category speaks a lot for the smartphone gamers.
AI Camera
The Honor 8X has a dual-lens camera combination of the back, where there is a 20-megapixel camera supported by a 2-megapixel one, and there is also a 16-megapixel front-facing camera at offer here. These revoluationary cameras come along with the AI support, where the camear can recognize over 500 scenarios in about 22 categories, and based on that, the settings are optimized to come up with the best quality capture.
Along with the artificial intelligence, there is also the multi-frame stabilization technology based on machine learning to produce better shots in low light conditions. The bokeh mode here takes advantage of the secondary sensor to measure the depth, and a natural bokeh effect is produced with the dual-lens rear camera. For the selfies, the 16-megapixel selfie camera uses the new 4 Cell fusion where the aggregated pixel allows 2 times more light to go through. Honor 8X’s super slow-motion feature can record videos at 16x slow motion (480fps) and with augmented reality (AR) effect, the camera can produce interesting group photos, creating an AR mask and background changes.
Large display for media
There is a large 6.5-inch FullView notch display with 91% screen-to-body ratio, and even with that, the phone won’t look so huge because of the minimal bezels. Honor uses the advanced chip-on-film (COF) technology and a patented antenna design to narrow the width of the bottom border to 4.25mm and achieve 91% screen-to-body ratio. All this leads to a better experience of watching movies, playing games, or even using the camera whenever you are trying to capture the best moments.
Excellent long-lasting battery
This did come as a surprise as the 3750 mAh battery of the Honor 8X was capable of giving over a day’s usage for the heavy users who have the screen active for over six hours during the day. Usually, for the amount of battery offered, the phone lasts just about a day but with the optimization done on the EMUI and the chipset, the battery life on the Honor 8X is just amazing.
There are some other phones in the market that boast of a specific aspect they excel in, where one might be a great performer while the other could do the best with the camera, but there is no phone that strikes a balance between all of the major aspects, and that’s where the Honor 8X comes in as something shining bright among the crowd.
