Honor has launched their latest smartphone in the bezel-less category and the successor to the Honor Magic, with the Honor Magic 2 follows the strategy of getting closest to the bezel-less display achievement and some interesting latest tech including the Slider camera that is seen only on a couple of other phones in the market, including the OPPO Find X that saw its way into the Indian market recently.
The Honor Magic 2 comes with the 6.39-inch Full HD+ (2340×1080) AMOLED display having a 19.5:9 aspect ratio. Internally, as expected, Honor has given the phone the best power with the Kirin 980 chipset that clocks a maximum speed of 2.6GHz and is supported by the Mali-G76MP10 GPU. There are variants with either 6GB or 8GB of RAM and 128GB or 256GB storage, while there is also a 512GB storage variant coming a month later.
The number of cameras here is surprisingly high, with a total of six cameras included, three on either side of the phone. On the rear is the combination of 16MP + 16MP + 24MP cameras, where the second camera has a super-wide angle lens, and the third one is a monochrome sensor, following the trend that Honor follows to pull in the details with that sensor. On the front, the primary 16MP camera is complemented by two 2MP cameras, both being given for depth sensing.
There’s the Magic UI 2.0 that is just like the EMUI 9.0 and it is based on Android 9 Pie. It also offers the Yoyo Assistant that is the AI based assistant.
The cameras are all hidden under the display and with a 5-rail mechanism, you can slide the front cameras towards the top and thus, this helps get almost a full bezel-less display on the front. For the security, there are three solutions given here. The first is the in-display fingerprint sensor that is given on all the variants, while the “3D Photosensitive Edition” (3D Biosensing Technology) for facial recognition is going to be part of the highest model, i.e. the one with 512GB storage. Apart from these two, the Honor Magic 2 will also have “voice print” recognition technology to only recognize the voice of the owner of the device.
The power given to the phone is by a 3400 mAh battery, that is supported by a 40W charger (10V 4A) and it is called the Magic Charge fast charging, and it is said to be giving the phone 85% of the charge in 30 minutes.
