The Sub-20k smartphone market has seen some great smartphones in 2018. HMD Global‘s Nokia 6.1 Plus is one such smartphone that packs in great internals and has a great design to complement it. The Motorola One Power, as the name suggests is a powerful smartphone coupled with a massive battery. Honor has announced their latest entrant in this price segment, the Honor 8X which competes with the rest of the smartphones. So, does the Honor 8X feature enough to compete with its rivals? Design and Display
As far as the design is concerned, the Honor 8X sure has the best design amongst three thanks to the dual tone finish and a tiny chinned front. However, the in-hand feel of the Nokia 6.1 Plus is far better than the two, which is due to the smaller form factor and lightweight. This also makes it easy to use, one-handed. While the Nokia and Honor come with a glass sandwich design, the Motorola One Power opts for a metal back. All three smartphones have a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner for security.
While all the phones use the same display technology, which is IPS LCD, all the three have different screen sizes. The Honor 8X features a 6.5-inch display, the Motorola One Power 6.2-inch screen, while the Nokia 6.1 Plus has the smallest screen among the three with a size of 5.84-inches. Although all the three phones come with a Full HD+ resolution, the actual resolution varies due to the aspect ratio. The Honor 8X comes with a 1080×2340p screen with a 19.5:9 aspect ratio, the Motorola One Power has a 1080×2246p resolution screen with an 18.7:9 aspect ratio, the Nokia has a 1080×2280p display with a 19:9 aspect ratio. Nokia 6.1 Plus has the sharpest screen among the three with a pixel density of 432 PPI, Motorola at second with 403 PPI and the Honor 8X at last with 396 PPI.
Processor, RAM & Storage
As for the processor, the Nokia 6.1 Plus and the Motorola one power come with Snapdragon 636 SOC, while the Honor 8X uses Huawei’s homegrown HiSilicon Kirin 710 SOC. The graphics on the 6.1 Plus and One Power are taken care by the Adreno 509 GPU, whereas the Honor 8X uses Mali-G51 MP4 GPU.
The Nokia 6.1 Plus and the Motorola One Power are offered only in a 4 GB RAM 64 GB storage variant, whereas the Honor 8X is available in 4 GB RAM 64 GB storage and 6 GB RAM with 128 GB storage variant as well. Amongst the three, the Nokia 6.1 Plus is the only phone to phone to use a hybrid SIM/ MicroSD slot, while the other use a dedicated slot, which is a bonus.
Cameras
In the camera department, all the three phones come with a dual camera setup on the back. The Honor 8X comes features a 20 MP primary shooter with a f/1.8 aperture and secondary 2 MP depth-sensing camera. On the front, the 8X comes with a 16 MP f/2.0 selfie camera.
Although at first glance the Nokia 6.1 Plus’s rear camera setup looks similar to the One Power’s, in reality, they both are quite different.
The Motorola One Power uses a 16 MP primary camera with a f/1.8 aperture and a secondary 5 MP camera for capturing depth information which has a f/2.2 aperture. To the front, the phone has a 12 MP selfie snapper with a f/2.0 aperture.
The Nokia 6.1 Plus on the other hand comes with a 16 MP primary sensor with a f/2.0 lens attached to it, and a second depth sensing unit is a 5 MP camera which uses a Monochrome sensor that has a f/2.4 lens on top. On the front, the phone comes with a 16 MP selfie camera with a f/2.0 aperture.
Battery
In the battery department, the Motorola One Power leaves the other two in the dust with its massive 5000 mAh battery, over the 3750 mAh and 3060 mAh batteries found on the Honor 8X and the Nokia 6.1 Plus, respectively. While the Nokia has the smallest battery amongst all, it comes with Quick Charge 3.0 support, and the Motorola, on the other hand, uses its TurboCharge technology for faster top-ups, neither of which is available on the Honor 8X.
OS & Interface
While all the three phones run on Android 8.1 Oreo, the Nokia 6.1 Plus and Motorola One Power run on stock Android, while the Honor 8X uses a Huawei-made EMUI 8.2 on top. The Nokia and the Motorola phones offer few customization options on the phones such as chop-chop on Motorola and Glance Screen on the Nokia.
The Honor 8X, on the other hand, has a plethora of customization options that offer features that otherwise wouldn’t be available on stock android. As the 6.1 Plus and the One Power are part of the android one program, they would be one of the first devices to receive the Android OS updates, as well as monthly security updates.

The Honor 8X comes for INR 14,999 for the base variant with 4 GB RAM and 64 GB storage, INR 16,999 for 6 GB RAM with 64 GB storage option and INR 18,999 for the 6 GB RAM with 128 GB storage variant. The Motorola comes at 15,999, and the Nokia 6.1 Plus is available for 15,999 and can be availed for 14,999 during the sale.
