Sharp has unveiled their latest flagship smartphone, the Sharp Aquos Zero, today, in Japan. The Aquos Zero uses an in-house display and only a single rear-facing camera, which is a rare sight in flagship smartphones these days.

Display
The Sharp Aquos Zero features a 6.22-inch WQHD+ display that uses the company’s first ever in-house designed and developed OLED panel. The screen has a 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio and covers 100% DCi P3 color space. The 1440×2992p screen has support for Rich Color Technology Mobile as well as it is Dolby Vision ready.
SOC & Software
Powering the Aquos Zero is the Snapdragon 845 SOC with Adreno 630 GPU handling the graphics. It comes with 6 GB of LPDDR4X RAM and 128 GB of internal storage. Sadly there’s no room for storage expansion. The phone ships with Android 9.0 Pie out of the box.
Cameras
As for the cameras, the Sharp Aquos Zero a single rear-facing camera, which uses 22.6 MP shooter with a f/1.9 aperture. On the front, the phone houses an 8 MP shooter in the notch, for selfies.
Miscellaneous
The Aquos Zero features a 3130 mAh battery which charges using Sharp’s parallel charging system. It uses two charging ICs to reduce the heat while charging. Also, the phone comes with heat dissipation technology for cooling the smartphone quickly.
The phone offers a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner as well as Face Unlock. For connectivity, the phone comes with 4G VoLTE, 802.11 ac dual-band Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.0, GPS. The phone also offers a 3.5 mm headphone jack that comes with Stereophonic Technology for the stereo speakers and also has support for Dolby Atmos audio.
The Aquos Zero is IPX5, IPX8 water resistant against waterjets as well as can be dipped up to a depth of 1 meter or more, underwater. It is also IP6X dust resistant. At 146 gms, Sharp claims that the Aquos Zero is the lightest flagship in the recent times. The phone is 8.8 mm thick.
Pricing and Availability of Sharp Aquos Zero
The Sharp Aquos Zero comes in a Black colored back that uses an Aramid Fiber back with Magnesium Alloy, for the side frame. The phone will be available in Japan by the end of this year. However, the pricing and exact launch are yet to be announced. It is still unknown if Sharp will bring this device to other markets as well, or not.
