Microsoft has launched their latest Surface devices, the Microsoft Surface Book 2 and the Microsoft Surface Laptop today, in India. The Surface Book 2 is a 2-in-1 laptop with a detachable display, while the Surface Laptop is Microsoft’s first standard laptop, without a detachable screen.
All the laptops come with Windows Hello face authentication for login and have HW TPM 2.0 chip for enterprise grade security. The laptops come with 1 year of limited hardware warranty.
Microsoft Surface Book 2
Microsoft Surface Book 2 (13.5-inch)
The Surface Book 2 13.5-inch variant comes with a 13.5-inch Pixel Sense display with a resolution of 3000×2000. The screen has a 3:2 aspect ratio that offers multitouch support up to 10 points. The laptop can be configured with either 7th Gen Intel Core i5 or 8th Gen Intel Core i7 processors. The RAM and Storage can be configured up to 16 GB LPDDR3 RAM and with up to 1 TB of PCIe SSD storage on the i7 variant, whereas the i5 option only comes with up to 256 GB of SSD storage.
For the graphics, the 7th gen i5 variant comes with Intel HD 620 graphics whereas the 8th Gen i7 variant is offered with Nvidia GTX 1050 graphics with 2 GB GDDR5 VRAM as standard.
The 13.5-inch i5 variant weighs 1534gms including the keyboard, while the i7 variant weighs 1642 gms with the keyboard. Both the options are 13 mm – 23 mm thick, with and with the keyboard docked.
Microsoft Surface Book 2 (15-inch)
The Surface Book 2 15-inch variant comes with a 15-inch Pixel Sense display with a resolution of 3240×2160 pixels. The screen has a 3:2 aspect ratio that offers multitouch support up to 10 points. The laptop can be configured with 8th Gen Intel Core i7 processor, clocked at 4.2 GHz. The RAM and Storage can be configured up to 16 GB LPDDR3 RAM and with up to 1 TB of PCIe SSD storage, respectively.
For the graphics, it comes with NVIDIA GTX 1060 GPU with 6 GB of GDDR5 VRAM. The 15-inch variant weighs 1,905 gms and is 15 mm – 23 mm thick without and with the keyboard attached.
For connectivity, both the 13.5 inch and the 15-inch Surface Book 2’s come with 2 USB type-A (version 3.1 Gen 1) ports, 1 USB type-C (version 3.1 Gen 1 with USB Power Delivery revision 3.0), a 3.5mm headphone jack, 2 x Surface Connect ports and a Full-size SDXC card reader. The wireless connectivity options include 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac dual-band Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.1. There’s also an Xbox Wireless card which is only available on the 15-inch variant.
The Microsoft Surface Book 2 comes with an 8 MP rear-facing camera, which can record videos at a maximum resolution of 1080p. To the front, it comes with a 5 MP camera which supports Windows Hello face authentication, as well as 1080p video recording.
The Surface Book 2 from Microsoft runs on the 64-bit Windows 10 Pro, with Creators Update pre-installed. The laptops also come with Microsoft Office with a 30-day trail offer.The Microsoft Surface Book 2 claims to offer up to 17 hours of video playback.
On the Audio end, the Microsoft Surface Book 2 comes with front-firing stereo speakers with Dolby Audio support. The laptop comes with dual microphones and also has support for Windows Sonic for headphones.

Microsoft Surface Laptop
The Surface Laptop sports a 13.5-inch Pixel Sense display with a resolution of 2256×1504. The screen has a 3:2 aspect ratio and has a touchscreen which can take input through the Surface pen, as well. It comes protected under Gorilla Glass 3. The laptop can be configured with up to 7th Intel i7 processor, with integrated Intel Iris Plus 640 graphics. The RAM and storage can be configured up to 16 GB of memory and 1 TB SSD, respectively.
The Surface Laptop uses Aluminum for the casing and has an Alcantara material on top of the keyboard surface. The Alcantara fabric is said to be incredibly durable and is claimed to age well.
The Microsoft Surface Laptop is claimed to offer up to 14.5 hours of video playback time. For connectivity, the laptop has a USB 3.0 port, a headset jack, a mini-Display port and a Surface Connect port. The wireless connectivity options include 802.11ac Dual-band Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.0 LE.
The Surface Laptop comes with Windows 10 S, out of the box, which is a toned down variant of the full-fledged windows. Users also get the option to upgrade it to full-fledged Home or Pro variant for free.
The Microsoft Surface Laptop comes with a 720P HD camera that supports Windows Hello, for face sign-in. Along with stereo microphones, the laptop also has Omnisonic speakers with Dolby Audio Premium, for an enhanced audio experience. The Laptop weighs 1283 gms in total and is 14.48 mm thick.

Microsoft Surface Book 2 series is premium segment with high end spec’s couple with latest gen. intel i5 & i7 while surface laptop is somehow mid range one on spec’s but feels overpriced compared to all other competitors.
