10.or (Tenor) recently launched their new 10.or D and it has a lot in common with the Xiaomi Redmi 5A including the price that they are offered at. The brand sells their devices exclusively on Amazon and aims to compete with the more established brand Xiaomi and beat them in their own game of pricing.
Both the devices have very similar specifications and offer excellent value for the price, in this post we will talk a little about the two devices while comparing and contrasting them.
Design
For most of the users planning to buy a new phone in the price range of about 5000INR, the design isn’t something of prime importance. However, both the devices provide an excellent design at the price range and they both feel very good to be held in the hand. The Redmi 5A gets a slimmer design than the predecessor thereby making it more compact and easy to use. On the contrary, the 10.or D is bulkier than the Redmi 5A but packs a bigger battery at the same time. The Redmi 5A goes with capacitive touch buttons to the bottom of the screen while the Tenor D keeps the soft on-screen navigation buttons.
Display
Although the display on the Redmi 5A isn’t subjectively the best, it clearly stands apart from the 10.or D and gives a much more vibrant output with better contrast. The Redmi 5A uses a 5” inch LCD panel while the Tenor D goes with a 5.2” inch LCD panel. Both the displays have the same resolution of 1280×720, but this helps the Redmi 5A offer a higher density per inch as it has a smaller screen. Tenor D, on the other hand, chose to go with a bigger screen to make multimedia usage more appealing.
Hardware
Tenor D has put in efforts to either match or outperform the Redmi 5A in every department. The 10.or D goes as far as having the exact same Processor, Same amount of RAM and even the same storage options. Both the devices get a 13MP rear camera with an LED flash and have a 5Mp front shooter for capturing selfies.
Software
Probably the only difference in the devices is the software end of it. The Redmi 5A comes with their own customized UI called the MIUI which is based on Android Nougat and the 10.or D comes with the stock variant of Android. This could be a plus point for a few who appreciate the stock Android experience and the vanilla flavor does help in having a smoother overall experience. It is a personal choice as there are several people who prefer the MIUI features that are found on the Redmi 5A.
Camera
On the specifications front both the devices have a similar camera but as talked about in the review, we didn’t like the camera on the Redmi 5A all that well. Although there is no shutter lag or slowness in processing the image, the camera output of both the devices aren’t really good. In well-lit conditions, the 10.or D does perform well, and the sharpness is good in the output images, However, the Tenor D fails to produce good images when the light reduces.
Battery and other perks
The Battery on the 10.or D is slightly bigger than the Redmi 5A and this might help the device in giving a better battery performance. Also, the software on both the devices are different and while the 10.or D offers a smoother experience in general, the Redmi 5A might have several features that are otherwise missing in the Tenor D. Redmi 5A also has a few special features including the IR blaster which might be a gimmick for a few, but it does come handy in a few situations.
Conclusion
It is surprising how well 10.or D did in the budget segment that it otherwise completely ruled by Xiaomi. Both the devices stack up well against each other and perform about the same. The camera on both the devices isn’t great but the Redmi 5A still outperforms the 10.or D marginally. Both the devices are available in the same price range, so the buying decision essentially boils down to the personal choice of operating system.
Good to see neck to neck competition by Tenor D, and it is worth noting that the 3G variant of Tenor D is ₹1000 less than Redmi5A! But the review of Redmi5A at Amazon is better compared to TenOrD so far!
