After taking the telecom sector by a storm, Reliance is all set to conquer yet another market, as it is gearing up to launch India’s cheapest 4G, VoLTE enabled smartphone with unlimited voice calling. According to the reports coming in from the news world India, Reliance is likely to bring out the phones between Rs. 1000 to Rs. 1500 price segment. However, Jio is yet to comment on the report as of now officially.
The report further adds that this cheapest 4G VoLTE enabled smartphone from Jio will be powered by the Spreadtrum 9820 SoC and is expected to come with features like decent quality cameras, WiFi, Bluetooth and a relatively larger display. With the ever increase in demand for Jio, a study by Counterpoint Research states that 7 out of 10 smartphones that are shipped in 2016 are LTE enabled and 8 out of 10 shipped in the third quarter are VoLTE enabled. This also comes as good news for other 4G operators in India, like Bharti Airtel, Idea Cellular, Vodafone.
Jio was a checkmate for India’s top three telecom operators like Airtel, Idea, Vodafone when Jio first made its public appearance. However, things have changed drastically once the Jio user base has started growing. Recently Trai has released a statement saying that Jio is currently the slowest 4G network in India, though Jio had an explanation for that which is up for a discussion for some other day.
Reliance is betting big on not just the telecom sector but also in the hardware sector where not just the smartphones, but also dongles, hotspot devices, Jio DTH services, fiber broadband and others are includes. Jio’s cheapest 4G VoLTE enabled smartphone will be launched early next year, if rumors and reports are to be believed. It could be under the same LYF branding under which the company has been selling its VoLTE based phones.
