Now that battery capacities are limited to a certain number, companies are trying to put their whole focus on charging the batteries quickly eliminating the need to wait for hours together to charge your smartphones entirely. With Snapdragon 830 SoC around the corner, Qualcomm is aiming to introduce the Quick Charge 4.0 that comes with super fast charging speeds of upto 28W. The new Quick charge could support to 5V/4.7A~5.6A, 9V/4A or similar configurations.
It looks like Qualcomm has found a way to feed more power to your smartphone’s battery without damaging it at any point. With Quick Charge 3.0, Qualcomm could achieve flexibility with 200mV increments from 3.6V to 20V and it intelligently identifies the power that your smartphone can take in given moment. One downside about the lithium based batteries is that they easily get damaged by overheating, but with Quick charge it prevents that by lowering the power your phone gets when it heats up.
Qualcomm 4.0 with 28W comes with Intelligent Negotiation for Optimum Voltage (INOV) which fine tunes device is charging and theoretically charges even bigger batteries faster than before. To remind you guys, Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0 can charge a 2750mAh battery from 0 to 70% in under 30 minutes, but rest of the 20-30% takes forever to charge which should be fixed with Quick charge 4.0.
Phones with Quick Charge 4.0 might launch in Q1 2017 along with Qualcomm Snapdragon 830 SoC. Which OEM would launch the Quick Charge 4.0 with Snapdragon 830 SoC? That’s a million dollar question for now. Stay tuned.
