LG G5 is a top phone from LG, the company’s flagship smartphone for the year 2016. It ticks all the important points that one would expect from a flagship and of course, the list would have a fingerprint scanner as well. The LG G5’s fingerprint scanner is located on the back of the device, just below the camera module.
The difference between most of the other phones and the LG G5 (check LG G5 specs) when it comes to fingerprint scanners is that the button on the G5 also acts as the power button to wake the phone or lock it, or even switch it off. There is no power button on the side, and there are only volume rocker buttons on the side of the device.
Now, the fingerprint scanner is, as usual, a good addition and a security measure so that no one can access your device without your consent. Here’s how to set it up on your LG G5.
What all can be done with the fingerprint security on the LG G5?
- Unlock the smartphone
- See locked content in Gallery app
- See locked content in Quickmemo+ app
No, you cannot take fancy selfies or type quick contacts using the fingerprint scanner, but that is fine until it keeps the phone content safe.
Setting up Fingerprint scanner on LG G5
To set it up, go to Settings > General > Privacy > Fingerprints & security and tap on that option.
In the next menu, tap on the first option, i.e. Fingerprints, and you will notice the setup page saying “Add your fingerprint”. You’ll first need to set up a lock screen method, one from Knock Code, Pattern, PIN, or Password. Once you set up one of them, you will be asked to scan your fingerprint.
You will have to lift and place the finger for a few times until the complete scanning is done and the registration is completed. Once you are done with that, you can choose whether to use the fingerprint scanner only to unlock the screen or to even show locked content.
Will I have to press the power button to activate the scanner?
Unlock how it works on some phones with the home button having a fingerprint scanner, the LG G5 doesn’t need you to press the power button to activate the scanner. Just placing your finger on the button activates it and unlocks the screen if the recognition is done.
How good is the fingerprint recognition on the G5?
It is quite quick but not the fastest of all, as the interface takes more time than other phones to open, and also, you cannot rely on it as much as you could do on the Coolpad Note 3, which has one of the fastest fingerprint scanners.
So, easy as it would be, but we hope the article helped you if you were setting up things for the first time.
