Idea Cellular has chosen Finnish telecom gear maker Nokia to provide the technology to roll out 4G LTE in three circles along with expanding their 3G and 2G networks. Idea will be launching their LTE or 4G network in Andhra Pradesh, Kerala and Haryana with the help of Nokia.
Nokia will be helping Idea by deploying Unique single RAN technology, which makes it possible to run 2G/3G/4G operations simultaneously on one platform. Other things which Nokia will be providing with this deal is to support the modernisation and expansion of Idea Cellular’s core network and operational support systems to help is the 4G LTE rollout.
Nokia will also be helping Idea Cellular with professional services for network deployment, network planning and optimisation, system integration and supervisory managed services support. Nokia India head, Sandeep Girotra, said, “As Idea Cellular’s preferred technology partner in 2G, 3G, and now in 4G, we will continue to support them by providing new technologies and capabilities for superior network quality.”
Nokia will also be helping Idea in modernising and expanding their 2G and 3G radio access networks along with the core infrastructure. This expansion will be made possible with the help of the six 2G circles and four 3G where Nokia has their Equipment.
Idea Cellular Managing Director, Himanshu Kapania, said, “We were looking for a solution which can support multiple radio technologies simultaneously on a single platform. We found it in Nokia’s single RAN solution, complimented by its energy-efficient and flexible site solutions.”
