Sony has started rolling out Android Marshmallow 6.0.1 update to three handsets, the Xperia Z2, Z3 and Z3 Compact. Earlier Sony decided to allow selected Xperia smartphones to try out the Marshmallow Beta program. In a similar fashion, the company has released the OTA update for select variants of the device.
The Xperia devices receiving the Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow update are Xperia Z2 with model number D6503, Xperia Z3 with model number D6603 and the Z3 compact with model number D5803. So make sure you check the model number of your Z2, Z3 or Z3 compact before feeling excited because of the Marshmallow update. These were the three devices which received the Marshmallow Beta update earlier as well.
There is no information about the Marshmallow update for Z2, Z3 and Z3 compact devices bearing different model numbers and it might take some time for other variants to receive the update. The build number of the new Marshmallow update is 23.5.A.0.570. It comes with the Android security patch level – February 1, 2016.
The updates which the latest Marshmallow 6.0.1 update brings to the three devices are the Camera 2.0.0 user interface which is the same one from the Xperia Z5 and comes with features like real-time adjustment sliders for brightness and other toggles along with the option to swipe between camera modes. The bugs which were seen earlier are also fixed like the Double-tap to wake feature not working for most users and other audio related problems for Bluetooth .
